A New You in 2020?

Dear Readers,

Happiness to All.

So everyone has been talking about the ending of a decade. How has that been for you?

Isn’t it just great motivation to convince ourselves we have a second, third or many chances to start all over again and hope for the best?

I think it can be a brilliant opportunity if we reflect back with honesty and focus on creating a life we believe that can bring us happiness, harmony and positive success.

A few weeks ago, I was contemplating on this idea of a “new year = new you” and to be honest it caused a stir within. How amazing to look forward to something that you somehow believe is better than before, right? Not too long after that, my curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to find out what others thought of “ending a decade” and starting “fresh”.

Using the strongest tool of the 21st century “social media”, well in my opinion at least, I did 3 Q&As on my IG story https://www.instagram.com/iammarialeonard/during the last week of 2019 and here are some of the interesting answers I received as well as my personal opinion on them.

The first question I asked on 26 Dec 2019 was: What will you do more often in 2020? I was thrilled to see many were interested in affirmation work, mediation, rebirthing and self-care in general. Well, if you know me by now all of these are my favourite. I can’t begin to imagine life without taking care of myself first. This is not at all being selfish, as many might think. It’s important to understand that when you want to be the best version of yourself to be there for others, to love others and to make a difference you definitely need to be well yourself first. The concept of self-sacrifice is an erroneous idea where people have been deceived by it for centuries. It really doesn’t do anyone any good, trust me on this. I know some of you might not agree on it, but let me explain why I believe your own wellbeing should be your no.1 priority.

Have you ever felt so joyful that you wanted to be around people and share your happiness?

Have you ever felt so good that you wondered how lucky you were?

Have you ever felt so excited after buying yourself something nice or treating yourself to something you love?

If you answered no to any of these, you are carrying unnecessary burden of your past and/or others. Give yourself the gift of letting go of victimhood and being a martyr. Then watch how your life will start changing into more ease, health, happiness and love.

On 28 Dec 2019 I asked: What are you quitting in 2020? The 3 most common answers were: overthinking, fear and work. I was surprised by the latter because this showed how many people work to only make a living.  I understand that it might not be the easiest and quickest option to just quit the job you don’t like and pursue your dreams. However, staying in an unhappy working environment is as toxic as having an unhealthy relationship. You are gradually depriving yourself from living your life fully.

In my opinion, it’s worth having a plan. Know where you want to be in a year’s time, in 3 years’ time and in 5 years’ time. Also, dedicate a few hours a week to do what you love and then think of ways to turn it into a business or to make money out of it. Your future self will be so grateful to you. Start now!

The last question was on 30 Dec 2019: What are you going to continue doing in 2020? My favourite answer was Life Scripting. Also some shared their hobbies like photography and yoga.

I have to say I was so happy to see many were into learning more about energy healing and similarly to the first question’s answers to be more aware of their thoughts.

Life is a continuous journey of learning, experiencing and expanding. If we stop them, we will feel stuck, lifeless and miserable. 2019 was an amazing year where I pursued my dreams in finally working full time as a spiritual coach and creating my own holistic healing modality.

For 2020 and beyond I’m dedicating my life to more coaching, healing, travelling to teach, facilitating retreats and being around my loved ones.

May you be inspired to do what makes you smile and causes a stir within.

Love Maria
